Full description
CONICAL MOREL (Morchella conica).
Morels belong to the Morchellaceae family. The conical morel is the most well-known. Growing them yourself is an engaging and not overly labor-intensive process. Morels look different from other cap mushrooms. The morel cap is conical in shape, with a surface covered by a network of deep folds. The mushroom’s color ranges from gray-brown to dark chocolate, almost black. The stem is cylindrical and hollow.
The mushroom can grow up to 10 cm tall. The flesh of the morel is delicate, breaks and crumbles easily, and has a pleasant taste. In most countries in Europe and America, the conical morel is considered a delicacy. It is eaten after being boiled first.
Morels are traditionally considered spring mushrooms, growing from April through early May. Under favorable weather conditions, they may also appear in warm autumn. It is best to grow morels in an orchard or in a specially designated area where natural shade from trees provides the mushrooms with the necessary light while protecting them from direct sunlight. The mushrooms respond very well to the addition of ash and nutrient-rich apple compost to the soil.
Before starting to grow morels, the topsoil must be replaced with a specially prepared substrate. It is made from garden soil mixed with sawdust and ash according to the following formula: for every six parts of garden soil, add three parts of sawdust and one part of ash. The prepared soil mixture should be mixed and spread in a 10-centimeter layer over the prepared beds. The laid substrate must be watered.
Once the bed is prepared, spread the mycelium over its entire surface (10 g of mycelium is sufficient for a bed measuring 2–3 m²), then cover it with a 6-centimeter layer of soil. Moisten the soil, then cover the bed with straw, small twigs, and leaves. Apple pomace works well. To enhance fruiting, you can sprinkle a thin layer of ash over the bed. Fruiting begins one year after sowing and continues in the same spot for 3 to 5 years, requiring virtually no effort. In the fall, beds sown with mycelium should preferably be covered with straw, grass, or leaves. In the spring, immediately after the snow melts, this protective cover is removed. As a rule, the mushrooms begin to fruit 2–3 weeks later.
Amateur mushroom cultivation does not guarantee results, as mushroom growth depends heavily on many factors.
Soil acidity is a very important factor for successful mushroom cultivation. For morels, the optimal pH range is 6.5–7.5. More acidic soil (lower pH) must be deacidified by watering with a solution of quicklime (100 g of lime per 5 L of water per 1 m²).
We recommend using MYCELIUM ACTIVATOR, which contains the set of macronutrients necessary for mycelium development, a hydrogel for moisture retention, a soil deoxidizer, as well as indicator tests for monitoring soil pH levels.

The mycelium has a shelf life of 5–7 years. Store in a dry place. The manufacturing date is indicated on the packaging.
