Aromatnaya Corn ― an early-maturing, high-yielding variety for table use; technical maturity occurs 70–74 days after emergence, biological maturity ― 85– 100 days. Characterized by high cold and drought tolerance, resistance to lodging, major diseases, and pests. Possesses excellent taste qualities and high sugar content (5.89–8%). A medium-sized plant, 140–190 cm tall, forms heads 40–45 cm above the soil surface. The conical head reaches 16–18 cm in length, with 12–14 rows of kernels, 38–40 kernels per row. The weight of a single ear is 200–220 g, and the weight of 1,000 kernels is 220–240 g. The rounded kernels are light yellow when milk-ripe and yellow when fully ripe. Intended for consumption in boiled, canned, and frozen forms.
Aromatnaya corn grows well in warm, light, fertile soils; it does not grow in acidic or waterlogged soils. The optimal temperature for development and growth is 20–30 °C. To obtain an early harvest, seeds are soaked for 24 hours and then exposed to alternating temperatures for 10–12 days—20°C during the day and 6°C at night. Planting depth is 6–8 cm. Responds well to irrigation. Corn is used for food as fresh boiled ears, for canning the kernels when they are milk-ripe, and for freezing.
