Full description
Belviy Skimmia - an early-maturing, perennial, frost-resistant variety. The growing season from full germination to technical ripeness of the leaves is 50 days. The rosette is raised and spreading. The leaves are light green, with a slightly sour taste, and a high content of vitamin C and carotenoids. The plant is cold-hardy, moisture-loving, undemanding regarding soil, and tolerates shade. It produces high yields in the same location for 3–4 years, with a yield of up to 6 kg/m². It is eaten both cooked and raw. The leaves are preserved by salting and canning. Seeds are sown in early spring (April 15–20), in summer (June–July), or before winter in October–November. After sowing, the soil is mulched with peat or humus to a depth of 1.5–2.0 cm. Sorrel seeds begin to germinate at a temperature of 2–3°C; the optimal temperature for plant growth and development is 15–18°C. The crop is moisture-loving; if moisture is lacking, the leaves become coarse, the plants begin to bolt, and oxalic acid accumulates in the leaves, reducing the nutritional value of the sorrel. Waterlogging in the spring delays leaf growth. Unlike other leafy greens, sorrel accumulates few nitrates, so it is recommended to fertilize 5–6 times per season (after each harvest).
