Karatal Onion — an early-maturing, small-bulb, semi-sharp-tasting variety. Produces a bountiful harvest regardless of climate and soil conditions. The best variety for winter storage. It can be stored from harvest until the next harvest. The bulb is large, round, with a yellow skin, weighing up to 200 g; in a single-year crop, it weighs 90–130 g.

Karatal onions are undemanding regarding soil type; the main thing is to ensure good drainage and soil aeration. They prefer fertile, non-acidic soils. They are grown by sowing seeds in open ground. Seeds are sown as soon as the soil is ready (usually in April). Seeds are sown to a depth of 1.0–1.5 cm. To produce large onions, the green tops are not harvested. Market-ready onions are harvested when the leaves begin to turn yellow and fall over (usually in August). If harvesting is delayed, the onions will resume growth, and the bulbs will become unsuitable for long-term storage. The bulbs are dug up and thoroughly dried.
