Prelado Pea Seeds, 20 seeds, Syngenta (Netherlands)

Full description
Prelado Garden Pea - an extra-early variety of peas for fresh consumption and canning. Maturity period is 56–58 days (maturity may occur as early as the 53rd day). Stem length up to 70 cm; during flowering, the stem remains short. The peas are dark green, large, and wrinkled. The 13-cm-long pods also have a dark green hue, containing 7–8 uniform peas. Prelado peas adapt well to hot climates without losing their sweet flavor or marketable appearance. The peas are primarily consumed fresh but are also suitable for processing, cooking various dishes, and canning.

Prelado is suitable for open-field cultivation. It is not demanding in terms of growing conditions, as it tolerates heat and stressful conditions well. Prelado vegetable peas can be sown early. The variety is resistant to Fusarium wilt type 1.

Prelado peas, with a yield of 3–5 t/ha, are a vegetable pea variety. Another distinctive feature is that irrigation is not required during cultivation. It is best to grow peas after grain crops. After harvesting the peas, radishes, lettuce, dill, and parsley can be grown on the plot. It is not recommended to grow peas on the same plot for 2–3 years in a row.

It is best to choose loamy, sandy loam, loose soil rich in nutrients (phosphorus and potassium are very important for the development of this crop). However, growing in heavy soils is also possible. This crop is shade-tolerant and frost-resistant, so seeds are sown very early—peas can withstand temperatures as low as -7 °C. Seeds germinate at 1–2 °C, but a temperature of 4–5 °C is required for uniform emergence. Seeds germinate faster when the temperature rises to 10 °C. Prelado peas, described above, are sown to a depth of 5 cm (3–4 cm in heavy soils), with a row spacing of 25 cm. Seeding rate: 18–20 g per 1 sq. m. If the soil is not moist enough at the time of sowing, the furrows must first be watered thoroughly, and only then should the seeds be sown.

The first fertilization can be carried out at the 2–3 leaf stage. Use 30–40 g of superphosphate, potassium chloride, and ammonium nitrate per 1 square meter. Repeat the fertilization in 2–3 weeks.

Pea cultivation involves weeding, loosening the soil, watering, and preventing soil crusting; although it can tolerate drought, it still needs moisture during the germination phase. Additionally, temperatures of 26 °C and higher can negatively affect yield. As an early variety, it is high-yielding. However, the quantity and quality of the harvest are influenced not only by care and climatic conditions but also by the timing of sowing the seeds into the ground. Harvesting can be done manually or mechanically.

The most common pest of this crop is the pea moth, and among diseases, powdery mildew. At the first signs of these issues, the plants must be treated with appropriate pesticides.

Peas yield their first harvest in early summer; to extend the period for harvesting fresh pods, sowing is carried out in several stages. Remember that you should not delay sowing early varieties, as they can suffer from intense heat and pests in the summer, which will negatively affect the quality of the pods.
