Shantane 2461 Carrot - a mid-season variety, with a period from sowing to harvest of 93–105 days. The surface, flesh, and core of the root are orange-red. The shape is conical with a blunt tip, 14–15 cm long and 5–8 cm in diameter. The roots are large, weighing 74–252 g. They are fully embedded in the soil and pull out easily. High flavor quality. Storage life during winter storage is good (83–91%). Used fresh, for canning, direct consumption, freezing, and juice production.
Agricultural Practices: To obtain an early harvest, seeds are sown in open ground in early spring, in April. To obtain root crops intended for storage, seeds are sown in late May or June. It is also possible to sow before winter, in November–December, in frozen soil, using dry seeds. Sowing is carried out in furrows 5 cm wide and 2–2.5 cm deep. The furrows are spaced 20 cm apart. When the plants develop 1 and 2 true leaves, thinning is performed; moderate and regular watering is required. Root crops are harvested in late September.
