White Truffle - a genus of marsupial fungi with underground tuberous, fleshy fruiting bodies. True truffles include edible species considered the most prized delicacies. This mushroom’s unappealing appearance is more than compensated for by its unique flavor. It has a mushroomy taste with hints of deeply roasted seeds or walnuts and a strong, incomparable aroma.
The shape of the white truffle is round or tuberous, its texture is fleshy or cartilaginous, and its size ranges from a pea to a large potato tuber or even larger, with a weight sometimes reaching 1 kg. All fruiting bodies have an outer leathery layer—smooth, cracked, or warty—called the peridium, and a spore-bearing tissue inside, which, when cut, has a characteristic marbled pattern of light and dark veins.
Truffles can be grown not only in greenhouses, but also in parks, forests, nurseries, and gardens, both alongside seedlings and under trees of any age.
