Leek - an early-maturing, cold-hardy variety with a maturation period of 45-80 days. Sowing: March, June, July. A perennial plant that forms long, flat green leaves with a thickened stem (white shank). The white stem is 15–30 cm long. It has the unique ability to accumulate vitamin C during storage. Once harvested, the leeks are stored buried in moist sand in an upright position throughout the winter. In hot, dry weather, they require abundant watering. This variety is valued for its high yield. Recommended for use in the fall and winter, fresh or dried, in home cooking. Used medicinally for kidney stones, rheumatism, gout, and obesity; improves gastrointestinal function; and is a good diuretic.
