Shantane 2461 Carrot - a mid-season variety, with a period from sowing to harvest of 93-105 days. The surface, flesh, and core of the root are orange-red. Shape: smooth conical, blunt-tipped, 14–15 cm long, 5–8 cm in diameter. The root is fully embedded in the soil and pulls out easily. The roots are large, weighing 74–252 g. Yield: 7–8 kg/m². Excellent flavor. The carrots are very juicy and contain a large amount of vitamins and carotene. They have good storage life during winter storage (83–91%). They are used fresh and for canning, for direct consumption, for freezing, and for making juices.
To obtain an early harvest, seeds are sown in open ground in early spring, in April. To obtain root crops intended for storage, seeds are sown in late May or June. It is possible to sow before winter, in November–December, in frozen soil, using dry seeds. Sow in furrows 5 cm wide and 2–2.5 cm deep. Space the furrows 20 cm apart. Thin the plants when 1–2 true leaves appear; moderate and regular watering is required. Harvest the root crops in late September.
